Texas spans very different trips: an urban handoff in Dallas–Fort Worth, a Houston-area pickup, and a rural West Texas delivery are not interchangeable. Quote the real journey and make the access assumptions explicit before comparing prices.
Do not replace the actual endpoint with a familiar metro
Give the precise pickup and delivery ZIP codes, even if you normally describe your home as “near Dallas” or “outside Austin.” Ask if the written price is for that address or a metro meeting point. A lower advertised number may assume access you cannot provide.
Dallas and Fort Worth are separate cities within a large metro area; Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso are different route endpoints. A provider serving one does not establish availability for all of them. Verify the lane and dates directly.
Disclose rural access and vehicle modifications
For a ranch, unpaved property, or narrow private entrance, explain the surface, access restrictions, and vehicle condition to the carrier. Ask whether the truck can load safely or needs a permitted meeting point. Do not assume a non-running car can be driven to an alternate location.
For a lifted pickup or oversized vehicle, provide actual dimensions and disclose accessories or modifications. Equipment fit matters independently of the destination. Ask which loading arrangement and price were approved, not simply whether the broker ships trucks.
Check current roads and the accepted scope
TxDOT’s current highway information helps identify closures and weather-related restrictions. The carrier must still plan its route and confirm timing; a clear map is not proof that a truck has been assigned. Keep a reachable contact at each end.
If a storm or access issue changes the handoff, agree on the new address, custody arrangements, and any revised charge in writing. Compare the assigned carrier’s identity with the order, retain pickup photographs, and inspect before signing at delivery.
