Insurance for Specialty Vehicles and Equipment During Transport
Compare cargo, marine, collector, agreed-value, and specialty coverage questions before moving a high-value vehicle, boat, or machine.
Specialty cargo often needs more than a generic “insured” statement. Value, loading, storage, marine exposure, modifications, and pre-existing damage can all change what a policy will pay.
Ask how the value is measured
Actual cash value, stated value, and agreed value have different outcomes. Ask whether appraisals, restoration invoices, installed options, replacement parts, or depreciation affect the claim.
Check the exclusions
Look for exclusions involving personal property, mechanical failure, pre-existing damage, low clearance, racing, water exposure, loading and unloading, storage, and unattended vehicles. A boat may require marine cargo coverage for ocean or lift operations.
Match the claim path
Know whether the claim goes to the physical carrier, broker, cargo insurer, marine insurer, or your own policy. Keep the signed BOL, photos, valuation documents, and repair estimates together.
